Well, Mr. Zane, somehow you are three months old. I don't know where this last month has gone - it's been quick! We just got back from your special 3 month appointment, and you only weighed 16 lbs 11 oz, which surprised me more than just about anything else in the past three months, because I was betting on close to 20 lbs. You are 25" long, which is just huge.
The doctor was pleased with how your socialization has progressed, your smiles and responses. However, he's still concerned about your vision, so we're going to see a pediatric opthamologist this week. Babies in glasses are just precious, so if you need them, I won't be too sad.
Yesterday, you started school. Several weeks ago, I learned that my job had been eliminated, so we weren't really sure what we were going to do. For now, you'll be going to school 2-3 days a week while I concentrate on trying to find a new job. The market is crummy, but hopefully something will crop up soon. If not, then you and your sister will get to stay home with Mommy all day, every day! yay! But we'll give it a few months.
Your first day of school started out ok - it was hard to leave you, but I knew that since you were with Ada's old teacher that you were in good hands. I stayed for about an hour, got you to sleep, then came home to work. And yes, I took a nap. I called at lunchtime and learned that you hadn't taken much nap, but that's not completely unusual. Then at 3:30, the school called to tell me there had been a mixup with your bottles, and you had gotten another baby's milk. This scared me a lot, and I ran right out there to pick you up. I know it's fine, but it made me feel helpless and reminded me that I have no control over what happens to you or Ada when you're not with me. This is not a good feeling for a mommy. However, I quickly got over the freak out, got you home, and you went right to sleep while Ada and I fixed dinner.
Because this month has gone so quickly, I don't even know if I remember what's new with you. You have started smiling more often, and even laughed a few days ago. That was the best sound in the whole world. You have started cooing, and talk to yourself a lot- including last night from 2:45-5:00 a.m. Usually, you sleep through the night, which is just fantastically wonderful. You still get very crabby if you don't get your bottle RIGHT WHEN YOU WANT IT, but you calm down immediately once it's in your mouth. You have started watching Baby Einstein, but (perhaps because of the vision issues) you don't stay engaged for very long. You still aren't sure what to make of Aggie, who has taken to exploring you a little more - but you don't get upset when she kisses you. You have discovered your hands, and try to fit both of them in your mouth at the same time - this usually doesn't work.
You have been very tolerant of your sister, who, if we don't watch her every single second, will do things like give you her baby doll's pacifier, or put her sunglasses on you, or pop a bottle in your mouth. She really loves you a lot, and I know you will be great friends.
Here are a few pictures of your first day at school.

Zane looks pissed on his first day of school!!! And regarding the wanting
the bottle when he wants it. Sounds a lot like his grandpa!!!!
Sorry you've joined the ranks of the unemployed -- tough market out there
right now so hope you find something. If not, it's not so bad being home
with the kids. I found a mom support group that helped a lot, since there
weren't many moms at home in my neighborhood. These days it's even easier
with all the social networking tools available.
I think the doctors scale is WRONG. That child weights at least 20 pounds!
